The company sells its medical devices in a range of different markets, with a focus on the elderly, young adults, children, and those with chronic conditions.
In 2016, the company reported a profit of $1.3 billion.
The profits are boosted by its business in Ireland, which has a relatively low birthrate.
In its 2016 annual report, Nies reported revenues of $2.1 billion.
Its shares closed at €2.26 on the Dublin Stock Exchange in November 2017.
In an interview with the Irish Independent, Mr McNeill said the Nys acquisition was the logical next step for the company.
He said the company’s strategy is to “drive our company forwards” and “create a better future for our customers”.
Nys said it was not disclosing the amount of the transaction, but added it was “quite a large sum”.
It’s been reported the deal will be worth around €30 billion.
Nies chief executive, Jim Cavanah, said the deal was a “massive investment” in Ireland that was being made “not only for the long term but for the short term too”.
Mr McNeil said Nys was committed to supporting the Irish economy and its people.
He added: “We’ve got a lot of very, very talented people here in Ireland and we are very excited about where the future of our company is going to go.”
The company’s Irish subsidiary, which operates in the European Union, is called Nys Healthcare.
Nees Healthcare was founded in 2014.
Nes is also based in Ireland.
In a statement, the group said it would work closely with Nys to create the best possible future for its customers.
