NFL owners are expected to vote Monday on a proposal to move the regular season to 2022, with some owners questioning whether the league is moving toward a new structure for its playoff schedule.
The NFLPA said Tuesday it is urging owners to approve the plan.
The league has already announced a move to 2022 and a plan to have the playoff format in place by 2020, which could allow for a more traditional playoff format with two wild-card games in each division.NFL owners will vote on the owners plan at their Jan. 12 meeting.
The plan is being opposed by several owners, including owner Jeffrey Lurie.NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement on Tuesday that the owners are “ready to go” to 2022.
The owners are meeting at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Indianapolis and the vote is expected to take place in front of about 1,000 media members.
The vote on whether to move to a new playoff structure is expected at least a week later.
