Mitsubishis online shopping empire has pulled the plug and has shifted to a new service that will offer a variety of products and services for the Japanese online retail market.
The company, which has operated for decades in Japan, announced on Thursday that it would launch a new online shopping platform called Mizuho Commerce that will provide a broader array of products for online shoppers.
The platform will be integrated into the existing Mizuhos retail platform, which is owned by Mitsubisti, according to a company announcement.
The new service will offer more products, including clothing, shoes, accessories, and electronics, said Mitsubis chief executive Yasuhisa Yamada in a statement.
Yamada said the new online platform will “enable more people to find what they need to shop.”
Mitsubias online shopping platforms were already available in Japan.
Last year, the company launched Mizuhon Shopping, which offers a broad array of online products, services, and payment options.
The site offers more than 2,000 products, ranging from apparel, shoes and accessories to furniture, electronics, electronics accessories, computers, and home appliances.
In Japan, Mizuhons online shopping offerings have been popular among shoppers, especially in the countryside.
“This is the first time we are bringing the online shopping experience to a wider audience,” Yamada added.
Mizuhono Commerce is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2019.
The announcement comes after a string of moves by Mizuhoshis online sales platform to boost sales.
Earlier this year, Mizhos parent company Mitsubisa announced plans to open a store in China, a move that is seen as a sign that the company is preparing to enter the Chinese market.
In March, the retailer said it had received a commitment from the Chinese government to open two stores there in the next two years.
The stores will offer various products, from clothes and shoes to electronics and home accessories.
In April, Mizuki announced plans for a store on the shores of Taiwan in 2021.
Mizhoshis first online shopping portal, Mizomatrix, was launched in 1995.
It has grown into a business that has over 1,000 stores worldwide, including in more than 60 countries.
